Derailment Detector (Passenger Transport)

The derailment detector makes use of a dual acceleration measurement in 3 axis to detect an axle of truck derailment. This acceleration is validated by the electronic circuit software by comparing the readings of two accelerometers for two microprocessors (2-out-2). When there is an event of derailment the system tells the computer (or PLC) cabin via Ethernet communication network and this computer (or PLC) will apply the emergency brake. Two Ethernet ports are provided to ensure communication.
The detector has the following applications:

  • Monitoring the acceleration characteristic signals of derailment event with emergency brake performance in the application;
  • Monitoring and recording mechanical vibration data, to form the wheels spectrum and structure of the permanent road;
  • Subway Integration (passenger train);
  • Cargo train integration (requires power by GEP, electro-pneumatic generator)*

* Application consolidated in more than 200 units of End-of-Train / EOT (Daiken) systems.

The detector has several benefits for customers such as:

  • Passengers integrity security;
  • Active safety system, independent and redundant;
  • Accidents and costs prevention with road maintenance;
  • Easy application in pre-existing structures;
  • Low cost of integration and maintenance.
